In 2020, we raised over $30,000 to purchase five acres of land in Costa Rica with the intention of creating a regenerative farm & artist space. We aim to strengthen our communities with nourishment and knowledge in the effort to steadily and confidently divest from capitalist colonial systems. Our project seeks to equip Black queer and trans folks with practical skills to help sustain ourselves. Marginalized communities are the first to feel the impact of climate change. We focus on teaching others how to grow their own food, build seed banks, and cultivate self-sustainability. We are in the process of organizing work retreats where a small group of Black queer and trans artists and land workers will learn how to build camping platforms and tiny homes by folks in our network. This is the first step towards creating spaces for folks to be able to stay comfortably on the land. We will eventually develop an artist residency program that will combine the creative process of land work and other mediums like film, music, and mural-making. All of this creates more opportunities for us to truly celebrate the artistry and innovation of our communities, while thriving in the safety of the spaces we build. The funds we raise will go towards completing the first house on the land, purchasing a work vehicle, and supporting our farm programs.
