About

Program for the Heritage of Ogiek and Mother is a grassroot non profit community based organization that advocates for the land and environmental rights of the indigenous minority marginalized and forest dependent Ogiek people's living in the expansive Mau forest of Kenya. I founded Prohome in the year 2013 after a successful completion of the annual indigenous fellowship program offered by the office of the high commissioner for human rights in Geneva. It was later registered legally in 2015. Since then, PROHOME has been steadfast in championing for both human and environmental rights of our people's both locally and in international forums. Besides human rights,we also work on restoration, rehabilitation and conservation of Mau forest which is vital for the survival of our community,Ogiek traditions and cultures is closely intertwined with the forest. We operated several indigenous tree nurseries which serves as hubs for nurturing our tree seedlings.
