Ma Earth is a community-led movement to align economic incentives with planetary health and regeneration.

Planetary health is declining, creating uninhabitable conditions on Earth. We are living in the Anthropocene, the recent period in Earth’s history where humans have become the single most influential species on the planet, causing significant impact on the planet’s climate and ecosystems.

  • The Stockholm Resilience Center shows we have crossed 6 of the 9 planetary boundaries, with multiple converging tipping points, marking a critical threshold for increasing risks to life on Earth.

  • NASA reports planetary vitals, among them carbon emissions at a peak of 420 ppm contributing to the heating of the planet.

  • According to WWF, nearly 70% of the wildlife population has declined since 1970 due to deforestation, overfishing and climate change.

Our economic system is at the center of this imbalance, as it incentivizes extraction and consumption, valuing profits over life. The system is encoded with the logic of perpetual growth, commodifying nature as a resource. When the truth is, nature is the source that sustains us.

The Earth is a self-healing, self-regulating organism. If we stop the exploitation and destruction of the living world, she can have an opportunity to regenerate and come back into a state of equilibrium. Humans can be a beneficial keystone species, living in symbiosis and reciprocity with the planet.

Ma Earth is developing tools to support the alignment of economic incentives with planetary regeneration. With new technologies, like blockchains and satellites, we can redistribute financial resources to people and places in service to improving ecological health.

Ma Earth envisions a world where culture and our economic system can shift from extractive to regenerative, transactional to relational, and from commodifying Mother Earth to revering her.

  • Imagine that acts of regeneration, resiliency and reciprocity were valued and rewarded rather than acts of consumption, extraction, and commodification.

  • Imagine rather than a deep separation from Mother Earth and a consumption-based economy we nurtured our connection to her through a regenerative and care-based economy.

  • Imagine that instead of seeing our living planet as a resource to extract, we acknowledge her as the source that nourishes and sustains.

  • “When a complex system is far from equilibrium, small islands of coherence in a sea of chaos have the capacity to shift the entire system to a higher order.”
