YICE Uganda is a registered not for profit social organization that provides rural smallholder farmers in Uganda with access to regenerative agricultural training, flexible financial services and permaculture practices to reduce hunger and poverty. The NGO aims to make available sustainable and easy-to-implement agricultural practices that increase the productivity of smallholder farmers' fields, thereby boosting their incomes while protecting the environment. YICE Uganda empowers local communities, especially women, young people and displaced people, with theoretical and practical knowledge about permaculture, regenerative agricultural training and flexible financial services.

Regenerosity supports and catalyzes grassroots organizations and leaders globally to protect, restore, and regenerate their communities and ecosystems. The organization flows trust-based funds to high-potential, community-based initiatives in threatened or degraded landscapes in ways that grow their capacities, scale and impact. Through its Blossom Program, a two-year capacity strengthening initiative, Regenerosity resources local grassroots organizations to strengthen their capacity and leadership skills while prototyping new models for regional growth. The work prioritizes transformation of food systems and livelihoods through agroecology and regenerative practices led by local communities informed by traditional ecological knowledge.

Project story

In Nakivale Refugee Settlement, southwestern Uganda, mothers like Riza walk miles daily searching for food. A refugee who fled conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo after losing her husband and son, Riza represents thousands facing an impossible choice: survive on dwindling aid or farm land without the skills or resources to succeed.

Through Youth Initiative for Community Empowerment (YICE) Uganda, we're transforming this reality. We teach refugee and rural farming communities regenerative agriculture—organic food production, water harvesting, composting, and climate-smart techniques—while building financial literacy and savings groups.

The impact is remarkable. Within six months, families harvest their first vegetables. By year one, degraded plots become thriving farms with healthy soil and fruit trees, producing food even during droughts. Communities earn income from surplus crops, children eat more nutritiously, and refugees and local farmers build peace through shared prosperity.

What began as a response to hunger has become a movement toward dignity and resilience. YICE now partners with local leaders, volunteers, and community groups across Kassanda District and Nakivale, proving that when people lead their own transformation, lasting change takes root—literally and figuratively.
