About

The Ecotone Center is a movement organization whose purpose is to tend abolition futures by activating the leadership of justice-impacted communities, cultivating deep movement connections, and nourishing healing relationships with land, food, and planet. Rooted in the concept and metaphor of an ecotone—the border zones where different ecological systems meet—we curate spaces to practice using the differences between groups as sources of generative tension rather than conflict and violence. We center BIPOC voices and believe that formerly incarcerated people have unique experiences that can help us all transform our relationships to food and land. We tend regenerative land sites, envisioning ways of living beyond extractive, carceral systems that treat land as commodity and some lives as disposable. We weave land stewardship, food justice, ritual and ancestral wisdom, and transformative justice practices that center repair, community accountability, and collective care.
