Community Action For Health and Development (CAHED) is a Kenyan community-based youth serving organization for young women and girls rights founded in Homa Bay. CAHED is a grassroots organization dedicated to improving community health, empowering vulnerable groups, and fostering sustainable development. Founded on the belief that sustainable change must come from within, CAHED partners closely with communities to identify pressing challenges and co-create solutions. Through partnerships with women, youth groups, schools, community leaders, and local institutions, CAHED promotes nature-based and community-led approaches that restore dignity, opportunity, and resilience. Founded on the belief that lasting change must come from within communities, CAHED works closely with local people to identify pressing social, environmental, and health challenges and co-create inclusive, locally driven solutions.
In Homa Bay County, Kenya, four fragile hill ecosystems face a critical crisis. Deforestation, soil erosion, and climate change have devastated Asego, Gembe, Gwassi, and Lambwe Hills threatening food security and survival for thousands of families who depend on these landscapes.
Community Action for Health and Development (CAHED) is turning the tide through bold community action. We're mobilizing youth, women's groups, farmers, and local leaders to restore degraded ecosystems while building climate resilience.
Our approach combines proven nature-based solutions: indigenous tree planting, agroforestry, watershed protection, and climate-smart farming. Beyond restoration, we're preparing communities for climate shocks like drought and flooding through sustainable livelihood training and disaster preparedness.
Your support will:
Establish community-managed tree nurseries
Strengthen water harvesting systems
Equip local restoration champions with tools and training
Empower young people and women as environmental leaders
Together, we're creating healthier ecosystems and stronger communities places where people and nature flourish for generations to come. Join us in transforming these hills and the lives of those who call them home.
