Arrábida bioregion: Scaling Agroecosystems Network Model

Portugal
Restoration, Education, Community

$30,071

USD

Total funded by 313 donors with matching

RE
Regen Waves NGO
Portugal
Nonprofit

Regen Waves NGO scales high-velocity ecosystem recovery across the 25,000-ha Arrábida peninsula (Portugal). To counter desertification and wildfire risks, we deploy an interconnected network of 10 community-led 'Superforest' hubs covering 79.5 hectares under active stewardship. Our validated methodology compresses 40 years of forest succession into less than 4 years, resetting critical soil Fungi-to-Bacteria ratios up to 2.77. Supported by Fujitsu and ADREPES, we train local 'Regenerative Guardians.' Ma Earth funding will serve as our scaling catalyst: moving our proven framework from our current 10-site baseline into a high-impact pipeline of 50 strategic sites, while expanding our 5 active citizen-science 'Regen Walk' loops into a 10-loop regional monitoring matrix. This expansion will permanently bridge fragmented landscapes, secure vital watersheds, and lock in climate resilience at a true bioregional scale.
