The Tiwai Honey Project addresses the declining bee population and the impact of this decline in communities surrounding the Tiwai Island Wildlife Sanctuary. Currently, the Tiwai Honey Initiative tackles the loss of bee habitats and their population due to deforestation, agricultural expansion, and climate change, leading to decreased pollination services and honey production. This decline threatens local ecosystems' health and undermines food security and economic opportunities for community members relying on beekeeping as a livelihood opportunity. The Tiwai Honey Project currently trains over one hundred (100) community members on sustainable beekeeping practices and beehive management. The project has established over 1,200 beehives to address the decline in the bee population and foster environmental conservation while empowering eight local communities of over 1,000 people. Bangs Circular has multifaceted solution to address the decline in bee populations and its associated challenges. Firstly, it has established and supported sustainable beekeeping practices among local communities surrounding Wildlife Sanctuary and National Parks in Sierra Leone.
