About

The Sera Wildlife Conservancy is a community conservancy in northern Kenya, Samburu County. It was established in the year 2001 and covers the Losesia and SereOlipi community lands. The conservancy has a total size of 340,450 hectares, which includes a conservation area of 51,740 hectares and a fenced Rhino Sanctuary of 10,700 ha - the East Africa’s only community owned and run critically endangered black rhino sanctuary that sustains a growing rhino population (27 black, 5 white). The communities here are predominantly Samburu but there are also Rendile and Turkana tribes. The security for people and wildlife has greatly improved since establishment of the conservancy. Over the years, the communities here have embraced wildlife and environmental conservation and have been at the forefront of rangelands management and restoration, wildlife protection and peaceful co –existence in the wake of imminent climatic shocks.
