Shtar Galim

Shtar Galim (The Wave Currency) is a grassroots organization born out of Bat Galim's community garden. Our mission is to protect our neighborhood’s unique identity and build a coherent, climate-resilient community amidst rapid, aggressive urban development. We do this through a hyper-local circular economy: turning household organic waste into community currency. By rewarding residents with digital tokens for every kilogram of composted waste, we divert trash from landfills, build healthy soil, and keep wealth circulating within local businesses. So far, our 250+ active families have diverted over 6,300 kg of waste across 25 neighborhood hubs. We are a team of 6 neighbors: Regev manages compost operations; Noa drives data and our custom app; Dor and Tomer lead business and municipal partnerships; and Inbar and Tamar handle community outreach. Together, we blend tech, ecology, and grassroots organizing for real, community-led change.
