NonprofitConserve Natural Forests is a dedicated non-profit organization rooted in the Pai District of Mae Hong Son in Northern Thailand, with a presence in Krabi in the South, and active planting sites spanning over nine provinces across Thailand. The organization's mission is to restore natural forest landscapes throughout Thailand to optimal structure, functionality, and resiliency in ways that protect and enhance biodiversity, self-regulate landscape ecological functions, and improve the livelihoods of local communities in the long term. Core projects include reforestation, wildlife conservation, and education. The organization runs programs to protect endangered species such as Asian elephants and tortoises by creating safe, natural habitats, and through educational workshops raises awareness about conservation while empowering local communities and volunteers to play an active role in preserving the environment.
Project story
Our organization was founded with the mission of restoring degraded forest ecosystems and protecting Thailand's biodiversity. At the heart of our work is the belief that local communities must be placed at the center of conservation and grow together alongside the forest.
Over the years, we have worked closely with local villagers in ecologically vulnerable areas, including mountainous watershed forests in Pai District and coastal natural forests in southern Thailand. Through our field experience, we found that much of the forest loss has been driven by economic necessity and urban expansion. Conventional conservation approaches alone cannot solve these issues sustainably if local communities are not actively involved.
Therefore, our role is to act as a bridge between forest restoration and community livelihoods. We focus on creating learning processes, supporting nature-friendly livelihoods, and fostering a sense of environmental stewardship and shared ownership of forest resources among local people.
By empowering communities to become long-term caretakers of their forests, we aim to ensure that these ecosystems will continue to be protected, restored, and sustainably passed on from generation to generation.
