NonprofitAnasi Farmers is a youth and community led organization operating in the Rwenzori region of Uganda in Kasese district to empower small holder farmers between ages of 16-45 years with knowledge and skills on best agronomic practices to improve food and nutrition security through promoting permaculture and agroecological principles and practices. Our organization is managed by farmers for farmers so that farmer voices and innovation can be an engine in building restorative agriculture towards transforming food systems in rural communities. Having been started by farmers who only grew crops on the mercy of God hence name ‘’Anasi’’ meaning ‘’God Knows’’, the organization adopted innovative mechanisms that will build cohesion between people, animals and the earth for generations.

Problem statement
Kyarumba sub county a community in Kasese district is occupied by small holder farmers who lives is dependent on farming. This mountainous land that has continuously been affected by floods and mudslides has resulted into people losing their homes and gardens to running water and sometimes claiming lives of both people, plants and animals.
Project Description
Anasi Farmers proposes a project aimed at nourishing soils whereas improving food sovereignty and security among 50 smallholder households. These farmers will be identified with support from the sub county agricultural officer trained on land restoration and management practices, organic crop and tree management practices as well as soil health. These include; agroforestry, water management systems at households and on farms, pest and disease management practices like formation and usage of organic pesticides, soil health mechanisms including making biofertilizers like biostimulants from crop waste, NPK, biochar fertilizer will be emphasized. The funds shall be used to buy garden materials, vegetable and tree seeds, facilitate the project coordinator during trainings and monitoring and evaluation but also setting up a vegetable solar dryer for preservation at the lead farmers demonstration site.
These beneficiaries will be trained on seed multiplication emphasizing climate resilient crop and tree varieties to ensure sustainability including pumpkins, sweetpotatoes, agrivelia, albizia, jackfruit, avocado, cinnamon among others also incorporating micro-gardening in their backyards. These shall help to ensure food and nutrition security as well as improving soil health in the target communities. The beneficiaries shall also be encouraged to establish community nurseries to establish food forests on their land as a food security model but also as a restoration model.
Outcome indicators
Improved soil health as a result of target farmers applying biofertilizers, organic pesticides and planting nitrogen fixing tree species.
Food and nutrition security as a result of growing early maturing and highly nutritious foods in their micro gardens.
Reduced damages caused by running water at both household and farm level due to improved water management practices.
