BATWA INDIGENOUS DEVELOPMENT ORGANISATION (BIDO)
Uganda
NonprofitAbout
Batwa Indigenous Development Organisation (BIDO) emerged from Uganda's Batwa community on January 16, 2015. At the core of BIDO's ethos lies a profound commitment to empowering vulnerable Batwa communities, envisioning a future where the Batwa stand tall with celebrated cultural heritage and upheld rights. The organization implements sustainable development projects including cultural centers and agroecology, advancing education and healthcare to empower the Batwa community to thrive and flourish. Following the 1991 Ugandan government eviction of the Batwa from Bwindi and Mgahinga forests to establish conservation areas with no compensation, BIDO serves as a community-led initiative working toward reclaiming what was taken from the Batwa people.
