Clean Ocean View Liberia was established August 23 2025. Below is our vision, mission and goals. Our Vision A clean and resilient Liberian coastline where marine life flourishes, communities are safe, and future generations enjoy a pollution-free ocean. Our Mission To restore and protect Liberia’s coastal and marine environment by leading clean-up initiatives, raising awareness, promoting sustainable practices, and empowering communities—especially youth—to take action for ocean conservation. Our Goals 1. Reduce plastic and solid waste pollution along Liberia’s beaches and coastal areas. 2. Promote ocean literacy and environmental awareness across schools and communities. 3. Build strong partnerships with local, national, and international stakeholders for marine conservation. 4. Advocate for sustainable policies and community-based practices that protect marine ecosystems. 5. Empower youth and community members as leaders in environmental stewardship.

Project story

Liberia's coastline is facing growing environmental challenges. Plastic pollution, poor waste management practices, coastal erosion, flooding, and the impacts of climate change are threatening marine ecosystems, public health, and the livelihoods of thousands of people living in coastal communities.

With nine coastal counties stretching along the Atlantic Ocean, Liberia's coastal communities are on the front lines of environmental degradation. Plastic waste often finds its way into waterways and the ocean, contributing to flooding, harming marine life, and increasing health risks for vulnerable populations.

In response to these challenges, Clean Ocean View Liberia was established with a vision of creating cleaner coastlines, healthier communities, and a pollution-free marine environment for future generations.

Recognizing that sustainable change begins with people, Clean Ocean View Liberia launched its flagship "From Awareness to Action" Community Engagement Initiative in the PHP Community of Monrovia. The initiative was designed to move beyond awareness campaigns and inspire residents to become active participants in environmental protection.

Through community sensitization programs, door-to-door outreach, environmental education sessions, and coastal clean-up activities, residents gained practical knowledge about proper waste management, the dangers of plastic pollution, and their role in protecting the environment.

What started as a community awareness campaign has evolved into a grassroots movement. Today, many residents of the PHP Community are taking ownership of their environment by practicing responsible waste disposal, participating in community clean-up activities, and serving as environmental stewards within their neighborhoods.

Despite challenges such as limited funding, inadequate waste infrastructure, and difficult weather conditions during some activities, the commitment and enthusiasm of community members, volunteers, and youth have remained strong. Their dedication demonstrates that meaningful environmental change is possible when communities are empowered with knowledge and opportunities to act.

A key strength of this initiative is its youth-led approach. High school students, university students, youth volunteers, and partner organizations work side by side to drive environmental action. By engaging young people as leaders, educators, and advocates, the project is building a new generation of environmental champions committed to protecting Liberia's coastal and marine resources.

The success achieved in the PHP Community serves as a powerful model for replication across Liberia's nine coastal counties. However, limited financial resources currently restrict the organization's ability to expand its reach and impact.
