Origen Circular
Colombia
Nonprofit

Origen Circular is a Colombia-based organization working at the intersection of ecological regeneration, education, cultural transformation, and community-led climate action. Rooted in Barichara, Santander, we design and facilitate place-based initiatives that help communities restore their relationship with water, biodiversity, territory, and one another. Our work combines participatory learning, regenerative design, youth empowerment, ancestral and local knowledge, ecological restoration, and systems thinking to cultivate pathways toward socio-ecological resilience. Through projects such as the Escuela del Agua, Misión Áurea Terra, and community-led watershed restoration in Lubigará, Origen Circular supports children, youth, families, educators, and local leaders in becoming active stewards of their ecosystems, and participants in the socio-ecological evolution of their territories

Project story

Water School South America: Restoring a Community's Lifeline

In Barichara, water is everything—memory, culture, survival, and hope for the future. But in a region plagued by drought, depleted streams, and water hauled from distant sources, the community faced a critical question: Could they restore their water sources from within?

The Water School South America emerged as the answer. Anchored at Chorreras—a historic gathering place where generations once bathed—the initiative began by truly listening: to natural springs, community stories, landscapes, and local wisdom. Youth and elders in nearby Lubigará joined this living research, blending ancestral knowledge with proven water restoration techniques through partnerships with The Flow Partnership (https://www.theflowpartnership.org/) and the global Water Schools network (https://www.waterschools.org)

In year one, vision becomes reality: Chorreras transforms into a water literacy hub where youth train as water guides and researchers, key water sources in Lubigará are restored, and innovative rainwater and keyline projects take root. Together, Barichara is building a new culture of water care—one that promises to inspire communities far beyond.
