NonprofitAbout
Wildfarmers was created in 2012 to address the ecological disaster facing California. The blue oak woodlands, endemic to and the largest ecosystem California are imperiled. Shading California for over 3 million years and stretching across 3.3 million acres, these ancient sanctuaries support an intricate web of life and serve as vital carbon sinks and natural cooling systems. 85% of blue oaks exist on private grazing lands where seedlings are grazed out. Ground temperatures in areas of oak die-off now reach 130°F, making natural regeneration almost impossible. threatening both habitat and wildlife that depend on it.
Blending traditional ecological wisdom with modern science we use fire and water to heal the woodlands. Local led and based, with our community we have increased new growth by 485 saplings and over 10 acres of understory, rain water collection ponds were increased from 1 to 7 and we have already seen the results of this as blue oaks have weathered drought with healthy leaves
