Greenglobe Ghana is a non-profit NGO originally incorporated as a community-based organization in 2002 and re-established in 2005. The organization offers research services specializing in policy analysis, policy dialogue, and advocacy. Greenglobe Ghana collaborates with financial institutions and development agencies to provide inputs and equipment to rural communities while enhancing forest governance through community-level engagement and community-based forestry initiatives.
Project story
Tsyome Sacred forest forms part of the Weto Landscape, a world classified bio-diversity hotspot of Global importance. This sacred grove through its ecological functions protects the water sources of five communities; soil to protect erosion, source of medicinal plants and habitat for sacred animals, shelter community deities, and a place for rituals and other traditional ceremonies.
The sacred grove plays an important role and well-being in the conservation of natural resources to these communities. The outstanding biodiversity features and cultural diversity of the grove are venerable, due to fragmentation and encroachment for agriculture, illegal harvesting of trees and settlements close to the grove are subject to disturbing and degradation which threatens the existence of the grove.
Greenglobe and its collaborators seek to address the problems associated with resource exploitation and ineffective conservation of this forest ecosystem, and also support and form co-management which integrates traditional knowledge with modern science.
Expected outputs includes, i. Capacity building of local community members, institutions on biodiversity conservation ii. Strengthening and support of local forest dependents in livelihoods, iii. Collaborate with the municipal assembly, traditional authorities, religious leaders, and traditional medicine practitioners in the management of ecosystems around the sacred grove.
