About

Corporación Visión Suroeste is a Colombian nonprofit rooted in the Cauca River basin of Southwestern Antioquia — a tropical Andes biodiversity hotspot home to two Key Biodiversity Areas, 87 water sources, and over 119,000 people across 11 municipalities. We were born from a citizen movement against AngloGold Ashanti's Quebradona megamining project, which threatened to convert this bioregion into a large-scale gold and copper extraction district. Our "Salvemos al Suroeste" campaign gathered over 70,000 signatures; in 2021, Colombia's national environmental authority denied the mining license — a landmark victory, though AngloGold retains its mining titles and the legal right to reapply. With Colombia's 2026 presidential election potentially bringing a pro-extractivist government to power, the threat to our bioregion remains real and urgent. This is precisely why we chose to build something lasting: a movement rooted not only in resistance, but in regeneration — from fighting the beast t
