About
Lochanna Beo (meaning "Living Lakes" in Irish) is a community environmental network in the Laune Catchment in Co. Kerry, Ireland that uses the lakes as a shared measure of the state of our local environment.
This catchment is home to one of only two Biospheres in Ireland - Kerry Biosphere - at the heart of which sits the famed Killarney National Park and the Lakes of Killarney.
Our lakes don’t lie. Every river and stream that flows into them carries the story of the land it drains – the farming practices, the roads, the urban areas, the wild places. When the catchment is healthy, the lakes are healthy.
Lochanna Beo was established with a view to bringing together our community of landowners, organisations and residents from across the entire Laune catchment so that the choices we make in our urban and rural areas are reflected in ever-healthier lakes and waterways.
