Explore Your Coast

Explore Your Coast is a volunteer group of communications, science, education and marine conservation professionals who inspire New Zealanders to connect with the ocean, raise awareness and understanding of coastal ecosystems and their ecological importance, and empower communities to become active stewards of the ocean. The organisation supports communities across New Zealand to connect with, explore and document their coast, with observations contributing to research for local conservation and restoration projects. In Wellington, the team is diving and filming 70km of coastline to collect crucial data to help stop and reverse the decline of local kelp forests. Explore Your Coast brings kelp forests to communities and schools through engaging events and marine education programmes, including the award-winning short documentary 'Seaweed, A Love Story', interactive learning experiences and fully immersive virtual dives in Wellington’s marine reserve.
