Project story

Farm Park is a 19+ acre public food forest and community space in East Lake, Tennessee.

It’s just that, a Farm and a Park!

Farm Park’s Farm will dedicate 3 of its 19 acres to community based urban agriculture. With two distinct programs; Heritage Farm plots for the neighborhood, and a Farm Incubator which will be used to educate a new generation of Farmers.

Farm Park’s Park goes beyond what we think of as a park today. “We house our wealth in the stomachs of our neighbors”, this principle guides us.

The remaining 16 acres will be a food forest, entirely open to the public, will welcome visitors to wander and forage like a little bear eating berries while still in the urban core of Chattanooga.

Much like the Northern White Oak is a keystone species for the forest, Farm Park will be a keystone park for our National Park City. Bringing the community together in the Living Laboratory that is Farm Park.

Farm Park is a Luthe Land Legacy project.

We can create a space that provides for all.

  • A living food forest with edible and native plants

    • Fruit trees, perennial crops, and native plants will be layered throughout the park so people can walk through, learn from, and responsibility harvest from the landscape over time. This is designed to be a long-term, self-sustaining system that grows more productive each year.

  • Outdoor learning spaces for children and schools

    • Designated areas throughout the park will support hands-on learning for local schools and families, from growing food to understanding native ecosystems and water systems. These spaces are built into the landscape, not separate from it.

  • A community hub with gathering spaces and local vendors

    • At the center of the park, a shared hub will provide space for small businesses, a coffee shop, a farmers market, and community events. It’s designed to create everyday activity and support local entrepreneurship within the neighborhood.

  • Regenerative systems that capture and reuse water

    • The park will incorporate rain gardens, natural filtration, and water capture systems that slow, clean, and reuse stormwater across the site. These systems support plant life while reducing runoff and improving the surrounding environment.

  • Spaces for art, music, and shared cultural experiences

    • Open areas, natural gathering spaces, and flexible structures will support performances, public art, and community-led events. These spaces are meant to reflect the culture of the neighborhood and evolve over time.
