Axladitsa-Avatakia is a 24-acre olive farm located in Greece that has become a place of learning, farming, retreat, and intentional evolution since 2006. The organization offers workshops, land residencies and gatherings focused on regenerative farming and collective inquiry, while practicing listening to and tending the land through conscious organic hosting, growing, and exploring ecological practices and natural infrastructure design. This land-based community welcomes visitors for various forms of engagement, from short retreats to longer residencies, creating opportunities for individuals and communities to explore regenerative living practices and meaningful personal transformation. Core to Axladitsa is the regeneration of the South Pelion region which it is a part of by being a living lab where experiments and collaborations can take place between locals, regional stakeholders and internationals.
Project story
Our Story
South Pelion holds a rare gift: within its modest landscape between two coastal areas, it contains all the geological diversity of Greece. This rugged terrain shaped resilient communities deeply rooted in land and sea, each developing unique capabilities while remaining interconnected through generations.
In 2006, two women arrived to steward a 24-acre olive farm with an ambitious vision: creating a learning centre. Connected to a global network of regenerative institutes, they developed the Living Wholeness Route Map—a land-based learning approach that reconnects people with Earth's wisdom through deep ecological understanding.
By 2020, their work had evolved. One founder, Maria Skordialou, transformed their farm, Axladitsa, into a living laboratory for regional regeneration.
Today, our purpose is bold: helping South Pelion become a self-balancing bioregional system. We envision integrated villages where regenerative agriculture sustains the landscape, communities thrive economically, and local life flourishes.
We're not trying to fix problems. Instead, we're awakening the region's innate potential for renewal—creating a prototype for how rural areas worldwide can regenerate through purpose-driven enterprise rooted in ecological integrity, social connection, and economic opportunity.
