Rangelands Community Initiative is not for profit youth led indigenous organisation dedicated to amplifying the voices of grassroots communities in Uganda. The organisation empowers young people as stewards of rangelands by strengthening capacities in sustainable livelihoods and land tenure systems that support pastoralism and climate resilience. We embed ancestral wisdom into community resource management, preservation and conservation legacy for present and future generations through collaboration and partnership with institutional and traditional leaders, women, youth, and researchers to enhance knowledge, technology, innovation, and resilience in rangelands and pastoralism.
Project story
Lobongia Rangelands Restoration
In the heart of Kaabong district, pastoralist communities are taking bold action to heal their land. The Lobongia Rangelands Restoration project is transforming 100 hectares of degraded rangeland into thriving grasslands and forests.
Here's what makes the difference:
Land Recovery: Indigenous grasses and native trees are being replanted and regenerated, restoring the natural ecosystem that sustains livestock and communities alike.
Water and Soil Protection: Strategic conservation structures prevent erosion and capture precious water resources, building climate resilience for uncertain times.
Economic Empowerment: Women and youth gain new opportunities through sustainable energy solutions—improved stoves, briquettes, and biochar production—creating income while reducing environmental pressure.
This integrated approach addresses the root causes of degradation while strengthening community resilience. By investing in rangeland restoration, we're not just planting trees and grass; we're securing the future of pastoralist families and ensuring food security for generations to come.
