Indigenous GroupAbout
Uru Uru Team is a group of Indigenous youth working to restore the sacred Uru Uru Lake in Bolivia by combining Indigenous knowledge with science. Using the phytoremediation properties of totora plants, they are removing mining pollutants and cleaning the lake through youth-led community action. The team members come from diverse backgrounds with expertise in water management and sociology, united by Indigenous knowledge to confront the environmental crisis threatening their lake. The group has won the 2023 UNDP Equator Prize and was named a 2024 Restoration Steward by the Global Landscapes Forum.
