About

Te Āwhina Marae is a living, thriving and enduring marae for the whānau, hapū, and iwi of Motueka, serving as a place that openly welcomes all people to gather, learn, connect, seek shelter and find hospitality. The marae operates a māra kai that has become an essential place of learning and connection and a rich source of healthy kai for whānau. The organisation is undertaking a four-stage redevelopment master plan adopted in 2019, including completing the construction of 20-homes where 75 whānau now live. Te Āwhina Marae also hosts Te Piki Oranga health services, a kōhanga reo language nest for preschoolers and runs the second longest carving school that is marae based in Aotearoa. Te Āwhina is a beacon of hope and aspiration for our community in Motueka and the wider Te Tauihu - identity and belonging, stewardship, education, health and wellbeing, enterprise, storytelling and fun!
