About

SWAGEN is an indigenous grassroots women-led organization founded in Uganda in 1998, focused on promoting gender justice and supporting women's rights in access, control and decision making to agriculture and environment resources. The organization helps grassroots women overcome barriers to accessing productive resources while addressing climate change through afforestation, reforestation, adaptation and mitigation to climate change, restoration of ecosystems, sustainable agricultural practices, solid waste management, and agroecology initiatives to advance food security and sovereignty. SWAGEN works in advocacy and natural resource management to eradicate hunger and extreme poverty among women in forest-edge communities.
