About
Safe Futures International (SFI), founded in 2019 in Ogoja, Cross River State, tackles water scarcity, deforestation, and land degradation caused by refugee influxes and unsustainable farming. SFI uses a community-led approach: local committees manage 10 boreholes and 5 wells serving 9,000+ households; 4,000+ farmers are trained in climate-smart agriculture; and 2,000 trees have been planted to restore soil and ecosystems. This model links WASH, sustainable farming, and reforestation to reduce firewood use, avoid ∼12,300 tonnes CO2e yearly, and improve 1,000 hectares of land. By integrating refugees and host communities, SFI builds lasting, low-cost solutions that restore the environment and strengthen livelihoods.
