About

Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust is a Maasai-led trust working for the Maasai community in one of Africa’s greatest living landscapes: the Maasai-owned land between Amboseli, Chyulu Hills and Tsavo in Kenya. People and cattle share their land with elephants, lions, cheetah, wild dogs and giraffes. Across 0.5m acres the trust supports local enterprises for women-led grass seed banks to rebuild degraded rangelands, wildlife rangers, schools and clinics which strengthen communities and incubate payments for ecosystem services to create real income from ecosystem services. After 20 years, this is a proven model. Community conservation fees, carbon revenue and not-for-profit regenerative tourism are helping shift towards a sustainable nature economy. Proof that when local communities benefit from nature, nature has a future.
