About

HYDROPAN is a climate-smart and environmentally friendly water conservation and agricultural technology developed by students at Lukenya University in Kenya. The hydropan uses cover crops supported by metal bars that form a canopy over collected water to minimize evaporation from direct sunlight. The system provides constant water supply for drip irrigation of crops and uses foliar fertilizer from worms to avoid inorganic fertilizers. The project delivers positive impacts including increased soil fertility and food production, reduced production costs, reduced malnutrition, and improved food security for local populations in arid and semi-arid regions.
