About

FreeTheBees protects and restores natural honey bee habitats through science-based biodiversity and forest ecosystem projects. As Europe’s only honey bee organization independent from commercial beekeeping interests, FreeTheBees focuses on wild-living honey bee populations, habitat restoration, ecological monitoring, and public education. Through its combined “Swiss BeeMapping” and habitat restoration program, the organization monitors wild honey bee colonies across Switzerland using citizen science, digital mapping, and long-term ecological observation. In parallel, FreeTheBees creates and restores tree cavity habitats (“SwissTrees” and natural tree hollows) to strengthen pollinator resilience and forest biodiversity. The organization promotes evidence-based approaches to pollinator conservation, biodiversity recovery, ecological resilience, and sustainable human interaction with honey bees and forest ecosystems.
