Community GroupAbout
The Ecosystem Forestry Development Association (EFDA) is a non-governmental organization based in Goba, Ethiopia, dedicated to safeguarding the unique biodiversity of the Afromontane ecosystems. Grounded in the heart of the Bale ecoregion, our mission is to reverse habitat fragmentation, protect endemic and endangered species, and foster climate-resilient communities.
Through technical frameworks like Participatory Forest Management (PFM) and Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs), we bridge the gap between rigorous conservation science and community-led environmental stewardship.
Key Conservation Initiatives
Our work integrates ecological restoration with sustainable community development:
• Habitat Restoration: Designing wildlife corridors, such as the Gerano Gorota Forest Corridor, to reconnect fragmented forest patches within the Bale Mountains landscape.
• Species Protection: Implementing targeted, in-situ threat mitigation and ecological monitoring for critical
