About

African Initiative for Mankind Progress Organisation (AIMPO) is an indigenous-led non-governmental organization founded in 2001 by members of Rwanda’s Historically Marginalised People (HMP), formerly known as the Batwa. Established from lived experiences of exclusion and poverty, AIMPO works to promote dignity, rights, inclusion, and sustainable development for marginalized communities. The organization operates in over 7 districts across Rwanda and has supported more than 1,740 households through programs in education, livelihoods, food security, health, climate action, disability support, and human rights advocacy. AIMPO empowers communities through participatory, community-led approaches that strengthen self-reliance, reduce inequality, and support social, economic, and political integration. Its vision is a society where all citizens are equal and HMP fully participate in national development free from discrimination.
