Michaela Ahonen is an ecocentric designer with over 10 years of experience working and volunteering for animal rights and welfare. She also worked at a social impact agency and designed materials for permaculture educational resources. She has a keen interest in human-animal bond and regenerative practices. Michaela is one half of Mad Design Ltd., a small creative studio specializing in design strategy, layout design, SaaS and UX/UI design.
Project story
The world of design and creative communication in general is quite ruthlessly capitalistic, which is why many of us creatives end up in ad agencies, getting paid to create visuals that make people shop and spend money on generally unsustainable lifestyle practices.
Seeking a different way within the creative industry but still needing to pay the bills and keep my family of four (and two pets) fed and clothed, I’d like to offer my knowledge, talent and skillset to regenerative, Earth-friendly projects that need solid visual communication online and offline but can’t pay a studio due to lack of funds. A funding like this will allow me to offer my services in design and illustration to those that need it while still being able to sustain my life as a wife, mother and a human in a relatively expensive Nordic country.
With the average cost of a project being 2000€ (branding + simple website - the usual that is needed to be online), a funding of 6000€ would enable me to take upon three clients that otherwise can’t pay; 8000€ would mean four clients like that and so on.
