Green Africa Youth Organization seeks a future where there is a balanced relationship between humans and natural systems on which they depend. The organization collaborates with local communities with relatively lower capacity to help vulnerable groups adapt to climate change. It strengthens Africa's climate diplomacy capacity by equipping young leaders to engage effectively in global climate governance. Green Africa Youth Organization has developed the award-winning Zero Waste Model program in the Africa Region.
Project story
Ghana's mangrove forests are disappearing fast. Over the past few decades, the country has lost up to 80% of these vital ecosystems to coastal development, overfishing, pollution, and climate change. This devastating decline isn't just an environmental concern, it's a humanitarian crisis.
When mangroves vanish, entire communities suffer. These forests act as nature's shield, protecting coastal villages from erosion, storms, and flooding. They're also fishing grounds that feed families and sustain local economies. As mangroves disappear, so do fish populations, leaving thousands of people without food or income.
The clock is ticking. Without immediate action, Ghana's coastal communities face an uncertain future. But there's hope. Together, we can restore these forests and rebuild the natural protection and prosperity that mangroves provide.
