Great Leaf is a non-profit organization that develops conservation and ecological restoration programs across various ecosystems in Ecuador, both urban and rural. Great Leaf works for the conservation and ecological restoration of ecosystems in Ecuador, aiming to become a regional benchmark through science, community engagement, and a strong commitment to a sustainable future. Founded in 2019, the organization was created to restore ecosystems, protect biodiversity, foster environmental education, connect communities and build an environmental legacy.
Project story
Deep in Ecuador's Chocó region—one of Earth's most biodiverse and threatened landscapes—Fundación Great Leaf is on a mission to rewild a fragmented forest. We're rebuilding a living corridor between two pristine wildlands, reconnecting habitats for Endangered Mantled Howler Monkeys, critically endangered endemic trees, and over 250 documented species.
But we're not doing this alone. Local families in El Carmen, Manabí are at the heart of this transformation: they propagate native seedlings, youth master agroforestry through hands-on EcoClubs, and women lead biodiversity monitoring. Together, we're bringing life back to degraded pastureland and restoring a landscape that had gone silent.
Your support fuels this work—funding field equipment, nursery expansions, soil health research, and team training. More importantly, every dollar directly plants trees, trains community parabiologists, and secures critical habitat for endangered wildlife.
Join us in reconnecting nature and empowering communities.
