About

BlueMX Mangrove was founded to address the large-scale degradation of Mexico’s mangrove ecosystems and the loss of livelihoods they support. Our approach focuses on restoring ecological processes rather than only planting trees. We prioritize hydrological restoration, sediment recovery, and assisted natural regeneration to re-establish tidal connectivity, enabling mangroves to recover at landscape scale. Our model is community-led. Restoration priorities are developed with ejidos and fishing communities through participatory planning, Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC), and long-term agreements. Community members are employed as restoration crews, monitors, and stewards of their ecosystems. By combining local ecological knowledge, science, and sustainable financing, BlueMX restores mangroves while strengthening livelihoods, biodiversity, and climate resilience.
